The 2nd HeKKSaGOn Summer School will take place September 1st - 10th, 2014 at Campus South of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Building 11.30, Senatssaal.
How to get to KarlsruheThe nearest airports are Frankfurt am Main and Stuttgart. From these airports, Karlsruhe can be reached by public transportation mostly on an hourly basis. Of course, you can also get around by taxi or a car – taxi or car rental services are directly available at the airport exits.
- Arrival at Stuttgart Airport
Stuttgart Airport provides excellent travel infrastructure. From here, you can reach Stuttgart central railway station with the municipal rail lines (S-Bahn) S2 or S3. The journey between Stuttgart Airport and Stuttgart central railway station takes 27 minutes. The trains run between 5 am and 12 pm every 10 or 20 minutes, and every 30 minutes on weekends. To find a train connection from Stuttgart central railway station to Karlsruhe central railway station (approx.1 hour), please use the train schedule & booking service of the German railway.
- Arrival at Frankfurt Airport
The fastest and easiest way to reach Karlsruhe from Frankfurt Airport is to travel with the German railway. The airport has a direct ICE high speed train connection to Karlsruhe (1 hour). You’ll find more information on schedules and fares here.
How to get to the Hotel Leonardo
- By foot Karlsruhe Central Train Station (Hauptbahnhof) -> Hotel Leonardo
The hotel is located less than a kilometre away from the Central Train Station of Karlsruhe and it is easily reachable on foot. Leave the station to “Am Stadtgarten”. Follow this street for 200 m until you reach Ettlinger Str. Cross the street and head left along the Ettlinger Str. The Leonardo Hotel Karlsruhe is located in a 11-story building on your right after about 250 m.
- By Public Transport: Karlsruhe Central Train Station -> Hotel Leonardo
Take the bus line 10 (direction "Ettlinger Tor") from Hauptbahnhof. Get off at "Kalsruhe Augartenstraße" and cross the road to the right. The Leonardo Hotel Karlsruhe is located in a 11-story building on your right after about 100m.
- By Taxi: Karlsruhe Central Train Station -> Hotel Leonardo
A taxi from or to the Central Train Station costs about 8 €; from/to the Baden-Airpark about 70 € and from/to the 'Messe Karlsruhe' costs about 20 €.
How to get to KIT - Campus Süd
On September 1, we will organize a bus transfer for all participants from Leonardo Hotel to KIT Campus South. Meeting point: 8.30 a.m. at the hotel entrance. On all other days, please use the Karlsruhe transport services (KVV).
One ticket covers all means of public transport. Tickets are available from ticket machines at stops, at the ticket offices at Marktplatz, at the main station and at Europaplatz. To travel within Karlsruhe, you can either buy a single ticket (zone 2, 2.30 €) or a Ticket x 4, a ticket valid for 4 single journeys (zone 2, 9.10 €). Single tickets are valid for one journey in the direction of the destination, changes are allowed within the valid time period (90 minutes for zone 2). To be valid, your ticket must be stamped with the current date before the start of your journey. This can be done by inserting your ticket into the yellow stamping machines found on all the transport services.
In order to get from the Leonardo Hotel to KIT Campus South, one possibility is, to walk to the station "Karlsruhe Werderstraße" (ca 9 minutes) and from there take the tram 2 with direction "Hauptfriedhof-Tullastraße" and get off at the station "Kalsruhe Durlacher Tor / KIT" (ca. 7 minutes).
From Werderstraße you can also take the tram S11 in direction "Neureut Kirchfeld" and get off at "Kronenplatz (Kaiserstraße)", from where you just have to cross the intersection to reach Campus South.
From the Leonardo Hotel you can also take the bus line 10 with direction “Hauptbahnhof” and get to the Karlsruhe Central Railway Station and from there take the tram 2 with direction "Hauptfriedhof-Tullastraße" and get off at the station "Kalsruhe Durlacher Tor / KIT" (ca. 7 minutes).

Lunch (September 2 to 10): Canteen, Line 6 Update. There is a selection of dishes (incl. salad bar) on the self-service basis. The daily menu can be found here.
You can pay in cash. The tables will be reserved for “HeKKSaGOn Summer School”.
Farewell dinner (September 9): Restaurant at the House for Guest Lectures is conveniently situated on the Campus territory within a 5-minute walk from Build. 11.30.
